Waiting list

One question to Organizing team.
Is it ever possible to see a waiting list and a statistics about it?
I suppose this information is interesting for other competitors.
Thank you.

Kas Rahvuspargi seisukoht osavõtjate arvu suhtes on jäik? Äkki annab nendega läbi rääkida?

2008-01-09

The waiting list is top secret and very hash-hash ;-))

Well, the reality is that none of us in the organizing team is working as a full-time event organizer, but for all of us this is a side job. Therefore, some things may take a bit time. Thank you for your patience.

I can inform you that as of 8 January 11 pm local time, there are 71 teams (160 persons) on the waiting list. The geography is the following:
42 LAT, 39, EST, 19 AUS, 14 USA, 11 FIN, 9 RUS, 7 NZL, 4 GBR, 4 CZE, 3 CAN, 2 SWE, 2 BEL, 2 LTU, 1 GER, 1 FRA.

Out of the 71 teams, 25 have a priority status on the basis of the criteria as listed on the web-site. We will transfer these teams to the participant database by next Monday. The other teams have to wait until 1 February for their registration status to be clarified. All entries to the waiting list have their time of registration recorded by the computer (similar to the participant database), and all teams registering to the waiting list get an ID number, which go in order.

Meanwhile we are in contact with teams whose payment has not yet arrived. It appears that in Russia there are very long banking holidays, until 9 January. Therefore, some payments from Russia have been delayed.

At the same time, teams who have been placed to the waiting list shall not transfer their entry fee before they receive an e-mail confirming their participation.

Best wishes to all WRC fans,

There was a question if the position of the national park administration about the entry limit could be re-negotiated.

Firstly, we shall all understand that by legislation their task and role is to protect environment and they do have a discretionary power to set conditions in this respect.

The organizing team may apply for increase of the entry limit, but we will do so only when it is more-or-less clear what is the size of the unmet demand, or in other words, the length of the waiting list beyond 700 limit. At this stage, we shall not assume that there will be any considerable increase in the entry limit.

An update on the situation of the waiting list. As of 12 January, there are 203 competitors (89 teams) on the waiting list.
The geography is the following:
59 LAT, 43, EST, 22 AUS, 16 USA, 16 RUS, 13 FIN, 10 NZL, 6 GBR, 4 CZE, 4 LTU, 3 CAN, 2 SWE, 2 BEL, 1 UKR, 1 GER, 1 FRA.

33 teams (72 competitors) have a priority status.

By now, all defending world champions from 7WRC in the categories MO, XO, WO, MV, XV, WV, MSV, XSV and WSV have entered. They will be confronted with the best European teams, as all latest European champions in all categories (except XO) have also signed up.
It's going to be an interesting competition!

Today, 33 teams (70 competitors) who had a priority status under the established criteria were transferred from the waiting list to the list of participants and they were sent a confirmation e-mail.

55 teams (129 competitors) remain currently on the waiting list. Their registration status depends on how many more teams with the priority status will sign up by 1 February. These teams may expect an e-mail in respect of their registration status soon after 1 February.

The current situation is the following.
We have 570 competitors (260 teams) in the list of registered participants and further 139 competitors (60 teams) on the waiting list. There have already been some drop outs. So, for the moment, the total is only slightly over 700.

What criteria will rull competitor (team) transfering from waiting list to participants after 1 February ?

Valters

2008-01-20

After 1 February, upon accepting any further teams with the priority status, the remaining number of entries will be filled in the order of registration IDs.

Lauri Leppik

2008-01-22

do u expand 700 (if it will be more)?

2008-01-22

We are not in a position to answer yet, as this does not depend on us, but on the administration of the national park.
We will see how many applications there will be by 1 February, and will decide the course of action then.
For the moment, the total (confirmed participants + waiting list) is 725.

Lauri Leppik

2008-01-31

Registration closed 1 February 0:00.
By this time the number persons on the waiting list was 216, making the total with confirmed participants 784.

In the course of 1-2 February we will transfer 132 competitors (priority groups + general waiting list) to the list of participants and send them confirmation e-mails. This will make the total up to 700, which is the entry limit.

84 competitors remain on the waiting list. We will inform these teams about their prospects in due course.

Indeed, 7.5 months before the event we are already fully booked!

Why hold 84 on wait list? Just add them. 700 or 784 - what diffrence ?

2008-02-02

Let me explain this again to those who did not catch it.
The WRC will be held in the Karula National Park. According to the nature protection legislation, this requires permission from the administration of the national park. We have a permission from the national park administator, the State Nature Conservation Center, but on a condition that no more than 700 competitors may take part in the event.
We are bound to observe the conditions imposed by the national park.

2008-02-02

is it avaliable to add other team member to my team?

2008-02-02

This option is no longer available.
700 is 700. In case of any drop-outs, persons who are on the waiting list, will get in first.

2008-02-05

Today we sent to all teams who remain on the waiting list their current standing on the list and an explanation of the situation.
We attached the file with all teams on the waiting list to provide transparency in the process.

It is quite obvious that this situation, where we have not been able to accept all who are willing to participate, does not make happy neither us nor those on the waiting list. But the entry limit is a reality and we have to live with it, whether we like it or not.
I hope for your understanding.

Best wishes,
Lauri Leppik

Hi.
How went re-negotiations with NP administration? Is this 700 limit closed?

Then teams currently in waiting list can hope only on registered teams give-up...

Andres P

2008-02-28

Are there any news about expanding the limit?

Also is there a certain date when you will start replacing teams which have signed up, but have not paid?
Sorry for being impatient, I just like to plan ahead :)

from the waiting list

2008-02-28

We are not even on a waiting list, so how sad is that! Would have loved to participate. It's sad that the competition is held on a national park terrain... When at the same time the traditional TAOK Rogain has a larger limit... Why did the organizers choose this area?

Very very sad to be left out...

2008-02-28

We have been in contact with the national park. There is some hope that the entry limit will be increased. However, we have not yet received a written confirmation/permission from the national park. We will inform you as soon as we have the news.

Lauri Leppik

2008-02-28

Why did we choose this terrain? Because we believe that from the available alternative terrains that are suitable for 24 hour rogaining in Estonia (and as you know, our country is not that big), Karula National Park provides navigational challenge appropriate for the championship rogaine, has sufficient variety both in terms of landscape and vegetation and has an accessible site for the event center. In a way, national park is also a sort of 'trade mark', indicating that it is an interesting terrain. Not just any terrain would get classified as a national park. Indeed, at the same time this implies certain restrictions.

One should also consider that the TAOK rogaine is an 8-hour event, requiring considerably smaller area. And everybody is welcome to participate in the 9th TAOK rogaine, which will be held 11 October 2008, the terrain partly (but not fully) overlapping with the WRC terrain, see http://www.rogain.ee/eng/index.php
for further information.

I see, u are not very fast there in Estonia...But how about progress with national park?

2008-04-01

We are extremely fast here in Estonia. You will see this at the WRC, if you make it to the list of participants ;-)

Well, what is true is that administrations are not always that fast. Unfortunately, the written answer/confirmation from the national park has not arrived. We sent the request to extend the entry limit over a month ago. We have also sent them a reminder about 10 days ago and received a reply that they will answer soon. As long as we do not have a written answer from them, there is nothing more than you and we can do, just wait - you on the waiting list, we outside the list ;-) Still 5.5 months to the WRC ...

Cheers,
Lauri
