2008-08-23 | NB! 60 second rule! We would like to draw particular attention to the amended version of rule B16 as it will be applied at the 8WRC:
In order to gain points for a checkpoint, all members of a team shall punch their SI cards at the SI station of that checkpoint within a time interval of 60 seconds.
The aim of this rule is to prevent team-splitting and ensure that all members of the team remain together during the whole course.
The same rule was applied at the 2007 European Rogaining Championships in Latvia, and according to the event director Guntars Mankus, all teams complied with this rule at all controls! We hope to see the same 100% compliance rate the WRC! However, recognizing that there will be teams to whom this rule is new, we would like to give some simple recommendations.
Considering that there will be 360 teams with 800 participants, it is possible that after the start small queues may form at the nearest controls. Make sure that your teammates are nearby when queuing. There will be more than one SI station at the nearest controls to prevent long queues.
During the course, when approaching a control, do not punch before you are sure that your teammate (all teammates) will reach the control within 60 seconds. If you punched and it took longer for the teammate to reach the control, you should return and punch again (in this case the first punch will be disregarded).
The basic line is simple - this is a team event and your teammate(s) shall always be nearby. If you follow this principle, complying with the 60 second rule is very easy.
